A few weeks ago I got to attend a social media panel here at TCU with Nate Katsuro, Angie Garcia, Christian Craven, Jaime Shrayber and Kate Padgitt. They were all so well-spoken and had some amazing advice for anyone trying to make it the social media/blogging/photography world!
There were so many great pieces of advice, but I picked the top five that really resonated with me. Here they are!
Just Start Already (hint: it doesn’t have to be perfect)
This was one of the best pieces of advice the panel gave! I put off starting this blog for SO LONG because I wanted it to be perfect. But here’s the secret: it’s never going to be perfect and that is 100% okay!! I’m still working on this and learning and growing. Jumping right in and starting my blog was the best decision, so if you’re waiting for the ‘perfect moment,’ don’t! Just start already!
Take Time to Learn
So after you jump right in, take time to learn! There’s a lot of confusing stuff that can come with a website, so don’t worry about taking the time to figure it out. The more you learn the better your blog/social media/photography/etc. will be! After hearing this, I realize I need to take more time to learn – there is still so much I don’t know!
Figure Out What Works for Your Followers
Everyone’s followers are different. Your tribe will come!! The panel was made up of people who each had very different types of followers, but they are all successful in their own ways! Figure out how you want your followers to feel, what your brand is, and what your intention is. Do you want to be your followers’ idol or their best friend?
Simplify
Don’t overthink it! Blogs, social media, photography, etc. are supposed to look effortless. But it isn’t. And that’s okay too – it’s fun to look at pretty pictures and seemingly perfect lives. You just have to remember it’s not all pretty and perfect all of the time! The panel all agreed that keeping it simple is key.
Authenticity
Make sure everything you do is authentic. Be passionate about what you’re talking about! Be organic! Go with your gut. The panel stressed authenticity more than anything else – if you’re authentic people will want to follow along and interact with you.

I hope you found what I learned at this panel interesting! And I hope it helps, whether you’re into blogging and social media or have a completely different passion – I definitely think some of this advice could apply to anything!
