Happy almost Fourth of July! While I don’t have a patriotic post, I thought it would be fun to share what I’ve read so far this summer, how I liked it, and a few books I’m planning to read! I find that I never have enough time to sit and read during the school year, but summer is the perfect time to check some books off your list!
This book has been so popular lately, and for good reason! It’s so inspirational and motivating to read – it actually was part of the reason I stopped wasting time and started this blog. The author makes some amazing points about our perceptions of fear and success. She also include some great personal anecdotes! If you need a little extra motivation this summer, I would highly recommend checking out this book.
I’m sure y’all have seen (or at least heard of) the movie that just came out for this next one. I’ve heard some mixed reviews, but I loved this book! It’s very Fault In Our Stars-esque, but not quite as tragic. I love a book with some romance and an unexpected twist (don’t worry I won’t give it away!), so this had me hooked. If you’re looking for an easy, but interesting, read for this summer, definitely pick this one up!
3. #GirlBoss
I know everyone is obsessed with this book, so don’t hate me, but I didn’t love it. Maybe I was looking for more of a “how to be a #girlboss” than an autobiography. I think it’s an impressive story, but it for some reason I couldn’t totally connect with it. If you like autobiographies and want to learn more about how Nasty Gal started, definitely pick it up, but if you’re looking for something more in the self-help category this might not be the book for you.
This one was everywhere a few years ago so you might think this is old news, but trust me, it’s not. I LOVE this book. I actually read it a few times a year because I think it’s so great. The author takes you through a year of her life, and each month focuses on how to improve a category of her life. I love how the author talks about how this project affected not only her, but her family and friends as well. She offers some great tips and tricks to increase your happiness and live a better life. I think everyone should go out and purchase this book. I promise you won’t be able to put it down!
I haven’t read this one yet but it’s up next on my reading list. If you didn’t see HBO’s miniseries Big Little Lies, stop reading this post and go watch it now. My mom and I got hooked when I was home for spring break, and I’ve been meaning to pick up the book for quite some time. It’s a murder-mystery set in Monterey, CA, so if you love mysteries as much as I do, I’m pretty sure this will be a great read for you!
6. I Am Malala
Another one I haven’t read yet, and also another one that was very popular a while back. This one’s been sitting on my shelf for a long time, but I’m determined to read it before summer is over. I’ve heard some of Malala’s story and seen a few of her interviews, and I can’t even put into words how amazed I am by her. Her fight for girl’s education is so inspiring and I can’t wait to learn more about her story.
