If you haven’t heard of The Home Edit then please take a moment to stalk their Instagram, order their books, and binge their Netflix show. Okay, done? Awesome. I have been obsessed with The Home Edit for forever, and I love Clea and Joanna. They make beautiful, organized spaces that are so aesthetically pleasing. I just want them to organize my whole life. But I’ll settle for using their tips to achieve my pantry organization goals.
During quarantine I, like I’m sure many of you, got the urge to clean out and organize everything I own. After months (but let’s be real, I’ve been working on this for years) I finally convinced my mom to go for a full pantry revamp.
Before Pantry Organization
While it wasn’t terrible before, we all just shoved our food on whatever shelf it would fit on, which is a shame because we have a great pantry with tons of space we weren’t utilizing properly. I had previously convinced my mom to purchase some cereal containers, and she’d already had these awesome snack bins. But, we (okay, I) decided we needed to go full Home Edit to create a stylish, functional pantry.
During the Pantry Organization
Per Clea and Joanna’s instructions, we first took EVERYTHING out of the pantry and edited. We tossed anything expired and moved whatever didn’t belong. Then I measured and sketched up an idea of what the finished look would be. Our Container Store has had crazy lines the past few months, and curbside pickup appointments were weeks out, so we ordered online. It took a while for things to arrive, so we put everything back in and waited until we had all the supplies.
Once it all came I finally got started on moving items to their new homes, arranging bins, and writing labels. My brothers were annoyed saying they’d never find anything because they couldn’t see in all the baskets, but I haven’t heard any complaints since the tags/labels! I tried to create ‘zones’ like The Home Edit does, which worked pretty well since we already had established some sense of these previously.
I would recommend doing pantry organization in two parts (editing, then organizing with any product you purchase) so the project doesn’t seem quite as daunting. I’m so happy with the end result and I think my family is too!
After
Apologies for the subpar photos, our pantry is a spot that doesn’t get much natural light. I didn’t get shots of the top or bottom of the pantry because those areas remained essentially the same, with backstock at the top and recycling and bags at the bottom.
I’m so thrilled with how it turned out! The only thing I would change would be my mom’s willingness to put pastas in their own containers, lol. I linked everything in our pantry below if you’re also in need of some stuff to organize your pantry. Hopefully I made Clea and Joanna proud, and I hope I can share some more organizing posts with you in the future! I’ve already done my bathroom and most of my closet, but I would love to tackle our laundry room, fridge, or hall closets next.
