Hi, guys! I asked on stories what you wanted to see next on here, and it was a close call but another On My Bookshelf won out. I haven’t read as many books between this post and my last one as I typically do, but I have a couple recommendations nonetheless!
This On My Bookshelf strays a little from what I usually read and share here (you know I love my contemporary romance novels and Reese’s Bookclub picks!). First of all, I’ve been doing reading about post-grad life to help me prepare for the job search. Second, considering recent events, I am committed to educating myself further about anti-racism, as well as reading more books by Black authors. Speaking of, instead of linking books here, I’d encourage you to skip Amazon Prime and order from a Black-owned bookstore! Here’s an article that lists Black-owned bookstores that you can purchase from online.

Lean In for Graduates by Sheryl Sandberg
I know this book has gotten mixed reviews, and I can completely understand why. Sandberg has a lot of privileges, some of which she doesn’t recognize. However, for me personally her book was very helpful and insightful. Especially as a graduate – some of what she talks about I can’t relate too, but it has helped me think more about my future career (whatever that may be!).
#EntryLevelBoss by Alexa Shoen
Y’ALL. This book is SO. GOOD. It has all the advice. Whether you’re a recent graduate or just trying to find a new job, this is the book you need. I learned so much. The author is also hilarious and relatable and brutally honest. I have a feeling this is going to change the game for me in terms of job applications!
Currently Reading
I know I don’t usually share what I’m reading when I write these posts, but since I hadn’t read much since last time I thought it would be fun to include!
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie
I have known of Adichie for a long time, but have never read one of her fiction novels before. She is an author from Nigeria, and she is amazing. If you haven’t read her books before I’m sure you’ve seen her TED Talk. Or at least heard her cameo in BeyoncĂ©’s “Flawless.” I’m only a few chapters in and loving it so far. Since I haven’t read it all the way through, I’ll let you read the info from the back of the book…
“Ifemelu and Obinze are young and in love when they depart military-ruled Nigeria for the West. Beautiful, self-assured Ifemelu heads for America, where despite her academic success, she is forced to grapple with what it means to be black for the first time. Quiet, thoughtful Obinze had hoped to join her, but with post-9/11 America closed to him, he instead plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London.”
Not the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher
Okay I swear I don’t normally read two books at once. But, somehow I forgot I was reading this one (I think #EntryLevelBoss showed up on my doorstep and everything else went out the window). Anyways, I was only a couple chapters in and hadn’t fully decided how I felt about it. All I know is it’s supposed to be a sort of reverse How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days which I. Am. Here. For. And now I’m thinking about how much I love Kate Hudson… and Matthew McConaughey… and “Somebody Like You” by Keith Urban… andddd I think I’ll go turn that movie on right now…
Up Next…
White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo
Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad
The Defining Decade by Meg Jay
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand
I can’t wait to be back (hopefully soon) with more on the previous books! What’s the best book you’ve read recently?? I’m always looking to add to my list!
