Hi guys! I’m back with another review of books I’ve read recently – a lot of good ones this time around! I’d recommend all of these books, but keep reading for more in-depth info on each of them.
Recent Reads
A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena
This is by the author who wrote The Couple Next Door which I LOVED. This one was not quite as good, but still an intense read. It’s about a woman who gets in a car accident in a bad part of town, and is suspected of murder. She can’t remember anything about the night of the accident, but she remembers things in her home being moved around in the weeks leading up to it. Definitely intriguing, but I did sort of figure out what was going on before the end. It felt like reading a Lifetime Movie with a more flushed out plot line, which is a compliment!! I love a good Lifetime Movie.
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
I thought this was another great suspenseful read! This is about a divorced woman who is a bit obsessed with her ex-husband’s new fianceĆ©, but her reasoning isn’t exactly what meets the eye. I don’t want to say anything else because I feel like it spoils the book! I also had some idea of the plot twist in this one, but it was still very intriguing.
All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin
This was one of the best, most thoughtful novels I’ve read recently. It’s about two parents whose respective teenagers get involved with a scandal after a high school party. It dealt with racism, sexism, materialism and so many other heavy issues in such a thoughtful and poignant way. Which is why it was so disappointing to see the author’s comments about Meghan Markle online – they seemed the opposite of everything she wrote in this novel. The novel itself was wonderful and really made me think, but I don’t know that I’d jump at the chance to read Giffin’s other novels after this (which is sad because I have loved the ones I’ve read in the past!).
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
Oh. My. God. I loved this book!! It was much lighter than the books I’d read before this, but it was such a fresh take on a contemporary romance novel. I loved that it focused on the guys’ perspectives and challenged gender stereotypes. Essentially, Gavin’s marriage is in trouble and to win back his wife he joins a book club made up of elite men in the Nashville area. They claim through reading romance novels, Gavin will learn how to fix his marriage. It was funny and lighthearted and I would 100% recommend for an easy quarantine read! I also would love to see this made into a movie.
Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams
This is the sequel to The Bromance Bookclub! One of the members of the bookclub, Mack, is the only single one left. He develops a crush on Gavin’s sister-in-law while trying to help save her career and take down a famous chef. I liked the love story a lot, but the way they went about the takedown of the chef was a bit far-fetched for me and didn’t totally make sense. And unlike the first book, the novel they read in their bookclub wasn’t as key to the plot. Either way it was cute and I’m still looking forward to the third installment of the series!

(Quick note about this section… usually what I actually end up reading next is totally different from this list! But just to give you an idea of other books I’m interested in)
