Wow it has been a LONG time since I wrote a blog post! Life has felt all over the place lately, between school, moving out of my apartment, and summer plans. I feel so relieved to be done with junior year and to finally be back home for summer! Although the weather hasn’t quit gotten warm enough for it to feel like summer. Anyways, keep reading if you want an update on my junior year, summer plans, and more!
Junior Year
As I said, I’m so relieved this year is over. #thankyounext!! Finals were rough, and moving out by myself was physically and mentally draining. I am so glad to be home!!
Something about my entire junior year, especially this last semester, just felt off. Some of it was a constant feeling of anxiety and stress I felt in regards to some of my classes and other situations I couldn’t exactly remove myself from. Luckily, these things won’t be an issue this upcoming year, which is a relief. I’m also pretty sure some of it had to do with a lot of the expectations I had for this year that didn’t exactly come to life. Isn’t there a saying about how you won’t be disappointed if you don’t have any expectations? Ha. I’m not sure how realistic that is but it must be true! There are a lot of things I, in all honesty, expected to happen this year that didn’t. I spent a lot of timing feeling upset or frustrated about it, but now I’m really hopeful that the things that didn’t happen are leading me to even better opportunities!
Speaking of better opportunities, I applied and got chosen as a Public Relations Manager for TCU’s student-run Advertising/PR Agency, which I beyond excited for! I start this upcoming semester and I can’t wait. This is something that is really getting me excited for senior year and one of the great things that came out of my junior year!
Even though junior year wasn’t my favorite, I certainly learned a lot about myself and what I want to prioritize going forward! Knowing I only have one more year left at TCU is simultaneously terrifying and exciting. Terrifying because I have no idea what my life will look like in a year, but exciting because I’ve always said that I’ve never felt like college is my ‘thing.’ Some people love college life and say it’s the best four years of your life, but I have to admit I think bigger and better things are waiting beyond these four years at TCU. Not sure how this reflection on junior year turned into rambling about life after college, but I guess that’s just where my mind is at right now! Haha.
Summer Internship
One thing that took up a major chunk of my junior year was applying to and interviewing for summer internships. I don’t even know how many hours I spent scouring LinkedIn and Indeed for summer internships.
I’ll be honest, I had had my heart set on a certain internship since freshman year and was pretty upset when that didn’t happen for me. There are those expectations again! I know it’s just a summer internship, but I was truly hoping it was my chance to get involved with a company I’ve admired for a long time. Once I got over my initial disappointment, I realized there were so many other amazing opportunities out there. So I started applying to even more internships – almost 20 different ones. Y’all, no one told me how hard it is to get a summer internship! It is cutthroat out there and I was not prepared. Most companies won’t even send an email to let you know they’ve moved forward with other candidates, so you just have to keep on applying to more and following up (without being annoying, of course).
After a lot of cover letters, emails, phone calls, and LinkedIn messages, I landed an internship with a safe, all natural skincare brand here in the Bay Area! I am truly so excited to get started and I know I’m going to learn a ton! I’m also really excited that their mission is something I feel passionately about. Not only will I be learning a lot, but I’m doing good at the same time! I’m also grateful the opportunity is close to home since I’ve really missed NorCal. Stay tuned for more updates – I start at the end of May.
Other Summer Plans
My internship is Monday through Friday until I head back to school in August, so I don’t have a lot of time for vacations or much else, but that’s totally fine by me! There are a few exciting things going on this summer though. One of my brothers graduates from high school in June, which I honestly can’t believe. And then in August I turn 21 (!!!) and may or may not be making my way up to Napa for a day or two.
Other than that, hopefully I can focus my free time on the blog and on working out which has become more of a priority for me these past few months! I’m excited to be back writing, keep an eye out for more posts soon!
xx, C
