Happy 2019, sweet friends! 2018 was a year of ups and downs, and to be completely honest, I’m glad it’s over. I’m ready to start fresh with 2019 (although we seem to be starting 2019 with quite the cough! UGH) and make it the best year yet! Instead of making resolutions, I prefer to set goals for myself. Here are my goals to make 2019 great!
Spend Less Time on My Phone
I think we all spend so much time on our phones, and over the past few months I’ve realized how much better I feel when I put mine down more often. For me that means putting it away when I’m studying, hanging out with friends, and even when I’m just feeling overwhelmed. It’s more helpful than you’d think, and a majority of the time you aren’t missing anything important!
Post More
This might seem a bit counter intuitive to the last one, but I really do want to commit to posting more. Both here on the blog and on Instagram! I find when I’m busy, the blog is the first thing I neglect, and so this year I want to make it more of a priority. This is something I truly love doing, and I want to devote more of my time here in the upcoming year.
Create a Night Routine and Stick to It
I struggle to stick to a night routine that helps me unwind, so 2019 is the year to figure out what works for me and make it a habit! I want this to look something like putting my phone away earlier and reading instead of watching Netflix. This will definitely be a work in progress, but I might just do a post on it when I figure it out. Let me know if that’s something you’d like to see over here on Claire Alison!
Be a Better Listener
How many times have you been having a conversation with someone, whether it’s a close friend or someone you just met, and you realize you completely forgot the story they just told you?? Or maybe even just a key detail to that story. This happens to me more than I’d like to admit, even though I truly do care about what the other person is telling me! This year I want to commit to being a better listener so I can be a better friend, daughter, sister, and student!
Be Present
I love to think about the future. Writing to-do lists and scheduling events in my planner are two of my absolute favorite things. But… sometimes this gets out of hand, and I begin focusing way more on what I’m doing next week, next month, or even in the next few years. In 2018, that looked like getting so ahead of myself about the prospect of moving back to the Bay Area after graduating (like looking at jobs and apartments… yes, seriously) that I wasn’t enjoying being at TCU and in Texas as much as I have the past few years. This year I’d like to focus more on enjoying where I am, whether that’s geographically or in other stages of life, and be present. Being in college and in my early twenties should be enjoyed after all, and I don’t want to look back and wish I had appreciated this season of life more!
No Shopping in January!
This isn’t as long-term of a goal, but it is something I’m committed to as we kick off 2019! December has been a month of buying too much, not only for my friends and family, but for myself as well. I love to give gifts, and I also love to shop, but my bank account has definitely taken a hit if you know what I mean! So I decided I won’t be shopping in January for any clothes, makeup, accessories, decor, etc. I just received wonderful gifts this holiday season from friends and family, and I truly don’t need anything more!

I am so excited for this upcoming year, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store!! I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one. What about you? What are you goals for 2019?
