It’s 90 degrees outside as I’m typing this, but I am fully expecting fall weather later this week! Which means I’m thinking of all the things I want to do this season. Over the weekend I went on a historic walking tour of homes in Diablo, CA (I was definitely the youngest person there), and despite the heat it really got me in the fall mood seeing all of the cozy homes and their fall decor!
1. Decorate
This one might seem pretty obvious, but decorating is one of my favorite activities! While I don’t think I’m going to be dragging out my box of decorations from college, I’m definitely going to help decorate the house. I picked up a few of these woven pumpkins (these are cute too) that I’m very excited about!
2. Go to the Farmer’s Market
I always say I’m going to go to the local Farmer’s Market and then I never do! When I put this on my list I didn’t realize our local farmer’s market is open year-round, but it’s a perfect activity for early fall before it gets cold or (hopefully) rainy.
3. Finish a Needlepoint Project
I have a stack of needlepoint canvases piling up, but I really want to finish the canvases that I’m planning on turning into ornaments before Christmas time! Olivia Grace Needlepoint makes these amazing Taylor Swift canvases that I’m using. And now that I’m looking at the size/shape they would be adorable turned into coasters too!
4. Make Chili & Cornbread
I love chili and cornbread – the perfect fall meal! I’ve never actually made chili from scratch (I always just go for the canned stuff) but making it myself seems like a fun fall activity. Especially after seeing about 10 people make it for dinner last night on Instagram! Here’s the chili recipe I’m planning to use, and here’s the cornbread recipe.
5. Finish Holiday Shopping Before Thanksgiving
Now some of you might be thinking I’m getting ahead of myself, but hear me out… First of all, once we hit Halloween the rest of the year flies by and it’s the holiday season before you know it! Second, supply chains are all kinds of crazy with Covid. I always plan ahead for holiday gifts, but because of this I’m really getting a head start! Plus, Hanukkah is so early this year – just three days after Thanksgiving!
6. Read 4 Fall Books
I love picking books that fit the season, especially for fall and the holidays! My goal is to add at least four seasonal books to my rotation this fall. I think I’m going to do a mix of fall rom-com type books and some scarier ones. I started reading The Whisper Man by Alex North (yes, it’s as scary as it sounds), but had to take a pause because I was housesitting and was too scared to read it while in a house by myself!!
7. Host a Virtual Friendsgiving
My friends are I are all over the country (I seriously only have two friends who still are in the Bay Area) so I love the idea of hosting a virtual Thanksgiving! I love hosting in general and I wish I could do something in-person with some of my college friends, but thinking I’ll put together something virtually. I’d send boxes to everyone with a few Friendsgiving-y items and plan a fun game/activity! Maybe I blog a how-to if I end up doing this!
8. Try a New Mani Color
You know I generally stick to light pink nail polish (and the occasional red nail around Christmas) but I’m thinking I need to branch out this fall. I’ve seen navy nail polish is trendy this year and I might test it out! Or if I’m feeling less bold, maybe just a beige-y nude color like this one.
9. Bake Pumpkin Bread
I still have never made or tasted pumpkin bread as good as the one they sell at Central Market. But, unfortunately, we don’t have Central Market around here! I did find this pumpkin bread recipe from H-E-B (they own Central Market) so I’m going to test it out. Cross your fingers it’s as good as Central Market’s!
10. Listen Red (Taylor’s Version) on Repeat
Last, but certainly not least, is listening to Red (Taylor’s Version) that she’s dropping November 12th! I’m going to have to figure out how to balance this with the equally important task of taking full advantage of Christmas music listening season (it starts the day after Thanksgiving, I will not be entertaining alternate opinions at this time). Anyways… who else is PUMPED for 10 minutes of All Too Well?!

Writing this list has me so excited for all of the fall things! Hoping we all get a little taste of fall weather this week, and I’ll keep you updated on these activities over on IG Stories!
