Since moving back home and spending a lot of time here due to Covid, I’ve been working on some updates to make my room feel a bit more ‘me.’ It’s currently a mix of furniture I’ve had since my middle school years, changes made while I was away (all of which I like!), and a few pieces from my college apartment I had to squeeze in. It feels kind of stuck between my childhood and the guest room – which it is when I’m away! – and I wanted it to get to a place where it felt more like mine. And honestly, like less of a hodgepodge!
I find I feel much calmer and relaxed in a place that truly feels like mine, and though I grew up in this room, it’s just not the same as it was before. It’s still TBD how long I’ll be living at home, but I want to make it a place that feels like retreat from everything else. This collage is a mix of things I’ve ordered and inspiration for items I have yet to order!
Furniture
My parents have been super kind as to get me a new headboard and new nightstands for my room, which I will take with me whenever I move out so that they can decorate the room the way they’d like. (We have very different styles!!) I’ve already ordered a headboard that I am beyond excited about! It’s a more elevated version of what I had in my college apartment, which I loved but have passed along to my bestie, Lindi. I ordered this new one in July and it still has yet to come, but I’m crossing my fingers it comes next week!
I would love two large white nightstands with gold pulls, but unfortunately my room just isn’t wide enough to accommodate exactly what I’m looking for! And I imagine my next living situation will be an apartment, so I don’t want to get anything that won’t work in a smaller space. These nightstands are serving as my inspiration, and I will get something narrower and replace the pulls. Such an easy way to make a generic or inexpensive option look high-end and personal.
Bedding
I received this quilted bedding for my birthday, which I have paired with the white linen duvet my mom already had in my room. I’d love to add some monogrammed pillows with light blue or navy embroidery. My room in college was white and blush, but I’m leaning towards blue as an accent color in the future. My room at home though is kind of a purple/grey for now, so I don’t plan to add any additional pillows or colors quite yet.
Lighting, etc.
We recently replaced the light fixture, and I already have this mirror from my college days that I plan to hang above my bed. Currently, I have some small lamps on my nightstands, but I love these wall sconces/reading lights. Since I have to go with smaller nightstands, having something on the wall versus a lamp would free up space! We’ve also talked about painting the walls a creamy beige color, but that may not happen while I’m still living here.

I can’t wait until this all comes together (hopefully by late October/early November)! It’s been a fun little project to work on while I’ve been home – still social distancing here in CA so I need all the projects I can get to keep me busy. Will be back with more on the room refresh as soon as there’s progress!
