I truly cannot believe 2017 is over! This year has gone by so incredibly fast. To be completely honest, this year was not my favorite, but a lot of fun things happened! What better way to prepare for the year ahead than reflecting on the highlights of 2017?
January
Visting Kentucky
My roomie from last year is from Northern Kentucky, and the very first thing I did in 2017 was fly out to visit her! It was so different from California, but I loved it! We spent most of the time eating and it was the best, can we go back to Sleepy Bee ASAP?!
February
For whatever reason, February was completely uneventful 😂 I don’t even have a halfway decent photo to put for this month! Here’s to hoping this February is one for the books??
March
Visiting Julia at UC Davis
In march was spring break, so I decided to make a quick trip to Davis to visit my best friend at her college! We went to the best Italian restaurant and I’m still dreaming about it!! (Hey Julia, Paesanos date soon?!)
Santa Barbara
For the rest of spring break, my mom and I took a road trip to Santa Barbara! We stayed at the Bacara Resort which was amazing. They had a spa, fitness facilities, an gorgeous pool, and one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. We went twice in three days! Santa Barbara was the perfect place for a girls’ trip!
April
Easter Weekend
Most of my friends in my dorm last year headed home for Easter weekend, but I stayed at school. It was one of the first times since I’d started at TCU that I was completely alone for more than a few hours, and it was actually the best. It was the first time all year that I took time for me. Just a little reminder that we all need some alone time to relax and unwind – especially during college when you seem to be with your friends 24/7!
Formal
We had our Phi Mu Formal in April last semester, which was lots of fun! To be completely honest though, I only put this in here because I was obsessed with my dress and need a reason to wear it again!! It’s not sold by Free People anymore, but it’s called the Sparklette Sequin Mini Dress and I’ve seen a couple for sale on Poshmark and EBay!
May
Completing My Freshman Year
There were so many highlights freshman year, some of which were mentioned above, so finishing the year was definitely bittersweet. I absolutely loved everything about it! It was sad to move out of the dorms and head back home, but I felt happy knowing I picked the right school for me and that the first year had been such a success!
Getting a Rhinoplasty
Most of you who read my blog already know this, but for those of you who don’t.. shortly after returning home for summer, I got a nose job. This could be an entire post in and of itself – and maybe someday it will be! – but for now I’ll leave it at this: I thought about the decision for years and am so happy I went through with it! If anyone wants to know more I’d be happy to share – just send me an email! (And for y’alls sake I will refrain from showing any photos from the recovery period at this time lol!)
June
DG Formal at Davis
My best friend Julia is a DG at UC Davis, and she so graciously invited me to her formal in June! It was perfect timing since I was back for summer already and she was still in school. Formal was a blast, and so was the farmer’s market we headed to the next morning. They seriously had the best apple juice I’ve ever had! Getting to spend some time with my bestie and a taste of her college experience was so fun!!
Starting My Blog
While it was definitely a struggle at first (and to be completely honest it still is sometimes!) this was one of the best parts of my year! Being able to write about everything from my life to my favorite clothes has been so much fun, even if right now it feels like it’s just my mom and best friends reading! I can’t wait to see where this all goes in 2018!
July
Going to Atlanta
I wrote an entire blog post on my trip to Atlanta, but it truly was one of the highlights of my year! I’d never been before, but Atlanta is definitely a city I would love to spend more time in.
Visiting Vancouver
I wrote a guide to visiting Vancouver which you can read here! My Grandpa lives there which means I get to visit pretty often! I love Vancouver, I actually considered going to school there, so anytime I get to visit is the best!
John Mayer Concert
I love John Mayer so I was super excited when one of my best friends from home and one of my best friends from school wanted to go all together! It’s so fun to see your two worlds collide, if you know what I mean. We had the best time that night, and John Mayer is amazing in concert. I’d been wanting to see him live for as long as I can remember and it was just as wonderful as I’d hoped!
August
Moving into the Phi Mu House
The Phi Mu house is brand new this year and my pledge class is the first to live in it! I have dreamed of living in a sorority house since I was in high school and finally getting to move in was a dream. You can check out my room tour here if you want to see how I decorated my room!
Work Week/Recruitment
While these two weeks were the longest ever, I actually had so much fun. I felt so much closer to my sorority sisters and made so many new friends within Phi Mu!
Turning 19
While 19 is a fairly ~boring~ birthday (you’re already an adult, but still a teen, so there isn’t much special about it), I feel like surviving my first year of adulthood is an accomplishment! I definitely don’t have this #adulting thing down at all, but I’m learning!!
September
Family Weekend
My family didn’t make it out for last year’s family weekend, so of course they had to make it up to me this year. My mom and dad had both visited at some point during my freshman year, and my mom was dragged on multiple visits to TCU and to move in day, but this was the first time my younger brothers were able to visit campus! I loved having the whole family there and I’m hoping maybe one of my brothers is a future frog??? 🐸
Getting a Little
Since I joined Phi Mu I had been dreaming about getting a little! In September Lindi picked me as her big and I have never been so excited! If you want to see the big/little baskets I put together and see some more of our reveal, click here.
October
NYC with Mom
For my fall break I got to head to NYC with my mom! We went for my Grandpa’s book signing and then took a few days to spend exploring the city. I did a full post on our long weekend here, if you want to read more!
Fall Formal
This formal was so much fun!! Again, I’m really throwing this in here because I love this dress! I tried so hard to find it online, but I will keep looking!
Changing My Major
One of the best decisions of 2017!! Read more about it here!
November
Thanksgiving
November was generally uneventful aside from heading home for Thanksgiving, which you can read more about in my last Life Lately!
December
Home for the Holidays
I’ve been home for about 2 weeks and it’s been so nice to be back! We celebrated Christmas and then headed to Tahoe to ski for a few days! Other than that, I’ve been laying pretty low!
I think this is the longest post I’ve ever written, but I loved reflecting on the best moments of 2017! I am SO ready to kick off 2018, though. Here’s to another amazing year!!!
xx, C
