Happy Labor Day! In the spirit of hard work, I’m sharing how I stay organized through the school year. I’ve been back in classes at TCU for just two weeks now, and so far I am loving sophomore year! I can already tell it’s going to be one of my busiest semesters yet, and I’m determined to keep it all together. From to-do lists to planners, here are my tips for staying organized. Keep reading to see how I stay on top of classes, sorority events, and extracurriculars!
1. Use a Planner
For me, writing things down is the best way to remember them. Using the calendar app on my phone is a great back up, but is not nearly as helpful as being able to write out my class schedules, appointments, and to-dos in one spot.
My Erin Condren planner is truly the greatest planner I have ever used. I’m slightly obsessed… It’s customizable to your needs, the covers are beautiful, and can we talk about the rose gold spirals? Amazing.
They are on the pricier side, but for girls on the go who are always jotting things down in their planners, it’s so worth it! Erin Condren often gives out $10 off coupons or other discounts when you purchase so you can save on your next order. They’re offering 20% off select items this weekend (unfortunately planners aren’t included) if you need anything else to keep you organized!
2. Wunderlist
There is nothing more satisfying than checking something of my to-do list. Anyone else write things down in multiple places so that when one task is finished, you can check it off more than once? Just me?
As much as I love writing things down, having your to-do list on your phone is pretty convenient. Wunderlist is an app that gives you the option to create different to-do lists (school, work, blog, etc.) and share them with others! You can even add notes, alerts, and due dates to each task.
Not only do I use it to keep school assignments and miscellaneous tasks organized, I keep my grocery and Target lists on it as well. That way when I suddenly remember something I need to pick up, I can quickly add it to my list (plus, you’ll never forget your grocery list again!).
You can also download the app on your laptop. I’ve gotten so many questions about it when I pull it up, and half the time people think I’m crazy for having an app with seven different to-do lists on it, but I swear it keeps me organized!
3. Plan Out Your Week
Every Sunday night I sit down and make sure every appointment, school assignment, and event for the week is up to date and in my planner. This helps prepare me for the week ahead and make sure I’m not blindsided by any due dates.
I started doing this in high school and I think it’s one of the best things you can do to stay organized. You don’t want anything to sneak up on you, especially when you’re busy balancing so many different things!
4. Check Your Email
This might seem silly, but check your email. Every day, multiple times throughout the day. If that seems like too much, at least commit to checking it when you wake up and before you go to bed.
I’m always shocked at how many people miss so many important things because they “don’t check their email.” So much of our lives gets communicated through email and most of us have multiple emails these days, it’s impossible to keep up and keep organized if you aren’t up-to-date.
Those are just a few things I do to help keep organized, I hope they help some of you! Do you have any other tips for staying organized? Let me know!
xx, C
